Hundreds of people have already signed up to take part in this year's Great Skipton Santa Fun Run at the end of November.
This year will be the 16th event of its kind, organised by Rotary in Skipton, and takes place on Sunday 30th November with the start and finish line on the High Street.
The event was officially launched at the Skipton BID office last week (Friday 19th September), with sponsors, participating groups, helpers and local charities all in attendance,
Peter Ripley, Skipton Craven Rotary’s Lead Organiser reminded the audience of the very first Fun Run which took place in November 2010 – a 5km route around Skipton, starting and finishing in Aireville Park, in which 400 runners, joggers and walkers young and old took part, raising £8,409 for Manorlands, Martin House and other local charities.
Since then the total amount of money raised is more than £540,000 - with last year's event attracting a record 2,266 participants and raising £63,818.
Supported by Skipton Town Council, the Great Skipton Santa Fun Run has a choice of a 5km or a 3km route (especially for wheelchair users and pushchairs) and serves as a precursor to the Skipton Christmas Lights switch-on later the same day.
The team from Your Skipton Radio will once again be hosting proceedings all day on the High Street stage, starting with the warm-up for Santa Runners from 10.30am ahead of the race start at 11am. From lunchtime there will be live music performances through the afternoon, building up to the Christmas Lights switch-on at around 5pm.
Peter Ripley says:
“After this year's event the Skipton Craven Rotary team will be passing the responsibility to the younger members from their sister Rotary Club.
"I was lucky to lead the team from the same time as the Skipton Town Council had new officials and I am very appreciative of the increased support we got, especially the switching of the Start/Finish to the High Street.
"This enabled the event to grow rapidly and encouraged local businesses to provide more generous funding."
The 16th Great Skipton Santa Fun Run will take place on Sunday 30th November 2025 - sign up to take part at skiptonsantafunrun.com.
