Jessica Dinsdale and her family are holding a family fun day on Sunday 26 June from 12pm-6pm at Keighley Rugby Club in Utley. The event will be a fundraiser for three NHS charities (Airedale Hospital and Community Charity, Bradford Hospitals’ Charity and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity), specifically for the neonatal units at Airedale, Bradford, and Calderdale hospitals.

There will be a face painter, a bouncy castle, an inflatable slide, raffles, a tombola, DJ, live music, and much more.

It is a ticket only event with tickets costing £2.50 for adults including a raffle ticket, and kids go free. The organisers encourage people to bring cash to the event, as they will be taking donations for things like face painting and the bouncy castles. To purchase tickets, please email Jessica on Familyfunday2022@hotmail.com.

Jessica has organised the fundraising event to support the neonatal units that cared for her baby, Marla, when she was born in January 2022. Marla needed neonatal care when she was born extremely premature (27 weeks) at Airedale hospital. She was moved to the neonatal intensive care unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary where she spent two weeks, and also spent some time on Calderdale hospital’s neonatal unit. She was finally transferred back to Airedale’s neonatal unit for five weeks before she was able to go home.

Neonatal units provide care for babies who need special observation, monitoring, investigations, and treatments. Babies may stay on the unit for only a few hours or for a period of weeks, depending on their age and how much care they need.

This fun day will raise funds specifically for the neonatal unit at each Trust (Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust). The neonatal units can then invest the funds in important equipment or services that are over and above what is provided by standard NHS funding.

Jessica says: “If it wasn't for the neonatal teams my little girl would not be with us now. The staff work tirelessly to care for not just the babies, but the parents as well. They deserve all the funds that we can raise as it will help support other families going through this tough time and help provide new resources and equipment.

“I feel the only way I can really show my appreciation is by setting up this fundraiser. We are so lucky to have the NHS and the amazing staff that love and care for everyone’s babies that are born early.”
