Fundraising ball in memory of well-known Ilkley DJ

Tickets have gone on sale for discodom’s Glitter Ball at The King’s Hall and Winter Garden in Ilkley on Friday 29 October in aid of Sue Ryder Wheatfield Hospice.

The ball will be celebrating the life of Dominic ‘Disco Dom’ Hanbidge, a well know local DJ and electrician who passed away in October 2020 after a short illness with cancer.

The evening will start with drinks and fun & games in the Winter Garden, followed by a two-course meal in Ilkley’s amazing King’s Hall. Entertainment will be provided from The Sarah Brickel Band and Mark Gregory, from Mark Your Occasion, plus many of Dom's local DJ friends will take to the decks!

All profits from the evening will go to support the vital work of Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, its doctors and nurses cared for Dom in his final weeks at home.

Dominic’s widow Jennie who has been joined by three friends to organise the ball said: “The services provided by Sue Ryder are vitally important to patients like Dom who required end of life care. Dom chose to be at home for end of life care and this was made possible by the amazing work of both the doctors and nurses at Wheatfields Hospice.

The glitter ball is going to be a fantastic event in memory of discodom who should have been turning 50 on 21st October. The ball is going to raise vital funding for Wheatfields Hospice whose services are still being used by my family. It would mean so much to see as many people as possible at the ball who knew Dom and be a part of this very special evening”.

Michelle Darbyshire, Community Fundraiser for Wheatfields said: “Last year Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice provided 135,000 hours of support to patients and their families.

Our care is free, but it costs us £3.8m per year to provide it, which equates to £10,500 per day. We rely on the tireless fundraising of our supporters to continue to provide the care for which Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice is so well known. Not only do our supporters raise a huge amount of money towards our services, they also help to spread the word about Sue Ryder Wheatfields so more people know about what we do and how we can help”.

Raffle and auction items are needed, if your business can donate something big or small please email the committee, dom@discodom.com. All businesses supporting the evening will receive publicity on the large projection screen at the event and on social media platforms such as Ilkley Chat.

Tickets are available from www.tickettailor.com, just search for discodom’s Glitter Ball, or by email from dom@discodom.com, tickets are limited, over a quarter have been sold prior to release.

For anyone who remembers Dominic and can’t make the ball, donations to the hospice can be made at https://dominichanbidge.muchloved.com/
