The Ilkley Rugby Club 7’s Tournament kicks off for the 5th time this Saturday from 10:30 down at Stacks Field for a wonderful day of 7’s rugby, food, drink, and entertainment.
The widely anticipated tournament has teams coming from all areas of the country in their three categories: Elite, Social and Ladies where in total 32 teams will battle it out to win their respective categories in what is set to be a fun filled day!
Alongside a packed day of rugby, there will be a BBQ for all to enjoy, the bar will be open for beverages and this year the local Goodfellows Mobile Bar will be attending the event to serve a range of exciting cocktails and drinks. Local businesses, Sachi’s Food Stall and Linford’s Kitchen will be at the event as well as entertainment and music all day!
Local restaurant La Casita are sponsoring the event in addition to the organisers and volunteers who all have put so much effort into making this year’s tournament the best one yet!
Head of Rugby at Ilkley Rugby Club, Rhys Morgan, has organised the event, managed the team entries and planned the logistics of all the volunteers. He says “I am really looking forward to our Ilkley 7’s Tournament this year, not only do we have 32 fantastic teams attending but all our sponsors and volunteers have helped out so much this year already.
I used to love playing 7’s rugby as a player and I feel it benefits our players in their skill sets, so hosting a tournament like this can not only help all our senior teams but also can help us get to know other teams from up and down the country.
This year is the biggest tournament we’ve ever had: as a club and rugby in general have been hit hard by COVID so we’re really looking forward to this year!
Our president John Barwick and our man behind the scenes Richard Scargil have been working so hard to make this year a success as well as the fantastic sponsors and volunteers.
We aim to be an accessible club and it’s no different with the 7’s tournament - Entry is £5 per person with free entry for under 18s! We’ve put so much hard work into making this year a success and we’re excited to see many faces on Saturday.”
