Local people among Queen's Birthday Honours recipients

Ilkley resident Anne Longfield - plus scout leader Ronnie Pickles and magistrate Margaret Smith from Keighley - have been recognised in the latest Honours List.

Anne Longfield is awarded the CBE for services to children. Until March this year she was the Children's Commissioner for England - a role she held for six years following a career working as a campaigner for children's issues.

She grew up near Otley and attended Prince Henry's Grammar School before her career took her to London. She moved back to Yorkshire with her family in 2003 and lives in Ilkley.

Receiving the British Empire Medal for his volunteering roles in Keighley is 82-year old scout leader Ronnie Pickles who is recognised for services to young people and the community in West Yorkshire.

The BEM is also awarded to Margaret Frances Smith JP for services to the community in Keighley.
