Charity volunteer delivers shopping by sledge!

An Ilkley Shop Assist volunteer found a novel way of getting the shopping delivered in the snow.

As she watched the heavy snow falling again this week Charlotte Atkinson thought about the clients she helps in her role as Ilkley Good Neighbours Shop Assist Co-ordinator. She knew that whatever the challenges the charity’s volunteers would make every effort to deliver the regular weekly shopping to those who needed it.

However, she was surprised and impressed when Ruth McBain, one of the regular Shop Assist volunteers, sent through some photos of her novel way of getting the shopping through…by sledge!

With traffic struggling in the snow Ruth decided that it might be easier – as the pictures show – to bring out the sledge to get her weekly shop to her client!

“Our volunteers are a dedicated and determined group of people who will always do their best to help their clients” said Charlotte.

“I’m so proud of how they’ve continued to support local residents in all manner of ways before, during, and hopefully after this pandemic. It’s no exaggeration to say that we couldn’t run our range of services without them.”
