Ilkley Pool won't reopen until spring 2021

Ilkley Pool won't reopen until spring 2021 after investigations found some extensive repair work is required to make the pool safe.

As staff prepared the pool for reopening after the closure due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and the pool was being refilled, it became clear that some of the tiles within the pool were lifting which could be unsafe for swimmers.

Investigations found some extensive repair work to repair cracked and damaged tiles in the pool.is required to make the pool safe. A new layer of concrete will need to be laid in the pool and the pool re-tiled.

Funding has been secured for the work and it is expected that Ilkley Pool will reopen in spring next year.

Work on the indoor pool is continuing alongside work on the Lido. The Lido has been closed since last year for refurbishment work on the pool tank.

Due to the age and condition of the Lido the refurbishment is proving to be more expensive than anticipated. The deep end wall of the Lido will require more extensive reinforcement and work will also be carried out to improve the water treatment and filtration. Work on the Lido is expected to be completed in good time for the Lido to open for the 2021 season.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said:  "We know that people will be disappointed that Ilkley Pool is going to remain closed for some time but we have to carry out this work to ensure the pool is safe for swimmers.  We will update our members and customers when we have more information on reopening plans in the Spring."
