Keighley, Ilkley and Skipton cinemas receive government funding

Ilkley Cinema is getting more than £200k from the government's Culture Recovery Fund, while the Keighley Picture House receives £80k and Skipton Plaza £47k.

The funding is part of £16m of grants announced this morning for more than 200 independent cinemas across England.

Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore said: "Cinemas are a closely packed environment so understandably they’ve had to stay closed while people have been trying to keep their distance. When things were normal people really appreciated their great local cinemas like the Ilkley Cinema and Keighley Picture House. They’re key icons of our community so I’m delighted they’ve benefitted from this government support.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: “The magic of film is such an important part of the festive period and this investment will help protect our independent cinemas so they're around for many Christmases to come. Alongside it, the extension of the Film and TV Production Restart Scheme means the UK will be producing even more great content as the cinema industry recovers, keeping us at the forefront of the creative industries.”

Ilkley Cinema has been awarded a grant of £204,421; The Picture House Cinema in Keighley is to receive £80,402 and Skipton Plaza gets £47,554.
