Locally-filmed Say Your Prayers released on-demand

A new comedy film shot mainly in Ilkley starring Derek Jacobi and Roger Allam has been released this week.

Say Your Prayers was filmed in early 2018 in Ilkley as well as Keighley, Otley and Harrogate, with Ilkley's real-life annual literature festival becoming a fictional event at which a murder takes place.

In the film, radical Christian hitmen Tim and Vic (played by Harry Melling and Tom Brooke) arrive in Ilkley tasked with assassinating famous secularist Professor John Huxley (played by Roger Allam). But after a case of mistaken identity, they find themselves having murdered the wrong man and stuck in Ilkley during the town's busiest weekend, seeking guidance from Father Enoch (played by Derek Jacobi).

The feature film was written by Harry Mitchell and Jamie Fraser, and is directed by Michell. It's been part-financed by Screen Yorkshire.

Producer Helen Simmons said: "Filming in Yorkshire was such a wonderful experience. Ilkley was integral to the storyline, so it made complete sense to base the production there. Not only were we able to access a huge range of filming locations, we also had the benefit of financial and logistical support from Screen Yorkshire. We were able to recruit some truly brilliant local crew, including our location manager, production designer and art director, as well as some fantastic trainees, who now have their feet firmly in the door of the industry."
