Views sought on a 20mph zone for Ilkley

Ilkley Town Council’s Transport Sub-Committee will be discussing a proposed 20mph zone for Ilkley and other issues at its next meeting.

Bradford Council have put forward a comprehensive set of plans for a 20mph zone throughout the town, with specific measures on all major routes extending from Victoria Avenue in the West to Wheatley Lane in the East. The Sub-Committee will be considering the plans at the meeting with a view to recommending whether or not the Full Council should support them.

Also on the agenda will be the Burley-Ben Rhydding stretch of the Wharfedale Greenway. The Town Council has asked Sustrans to make a proposal to update the feasibility study for this stretch of the Greenway, which has stalled since the original feasibility study was submitted in 2017. The Transport Sub-Committee will be considering this proposal and reporting back to Full Council.

The first set of plans to improve safety at the Railway Road junction under the Return to High Streets Safely Fund were supported by the Council. However, these plans are under revision, and there is now a proposal to make much more radical changes at this junction, including the introduction of pedestrian barriers. This matter will also be discussed at the meeting.

Councillor Tom Franks, chair of the Sub-Committee, says “These issues are important to our town, and we want to hear the views of residents. All council meetings are open and we would welcome your attendance, so that we can hear your opinions. Alternatively you can send them direct to the Town Clerk”.

The Transport Sub-Committee meets on zoom on Wednesday 17th February at 5.30. For details on how to attend, or to send in your views, please contact clerk@towncouncil.ilkley.org
