Is There Something I Should Know

A magical Christmas at Keighley’s Cliffe Castle

Bradford Council’s Cliffe Castle Museum and Park will be helping the people of Keighley to get into the Christmas spirit with two special weekends of festive activities over Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 and Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December, between 11am to 3.30am on each day.

There’ll be something for everyone with a Santa’s grotto, live music, market stalls, family crafts and more across the different dates, including a more relaxed Santa only day for those who’d prefer a calmer experience.

Children will be able to see Santa Claus in the fabulous setting of the Bracewell Smith Hall at the Bradford Council-run museum. Tickets for Santa’s grotto are £10 per child. As part of the experience, children will be able to write their own letter to Santa or draw him a picture, before listening out for him ringing a bell to invite them to visit the grotto in small groups.

The children will then be able to post their letter or picture in a special post box, and have a chat and photographs with Santa before receiving a special gift and a certificate as a memento of their visit. All proceeds from the Santa visits will go to the Keighley Lions.

A very limited number of tickets will be available on the day, so booking your time slot in advance is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. Book your tickets at: www.keighleylions.org.uk/shop/p/santas-grotto-ticket-cliffe-castle

Saturday 9 December will start the festivities gently with a more relaxed ‘Santa only’ day. The festivities build on Sunday 10 December with Santa’s grotto as well as live festive music from the Cricklemore Crewe in the museum.

On Saturday 16 December Santa will be back in his grotto and there will also be a Christmas art and craft fair and family activities inside the museum, as well as winter nature crafts and mulled apple juice in the park.

Sunday 17 December will round off the festivities with the final chance to see Santa, as well as arts and craft stalls and family activities inside the museum. Those out and about taking their four-legged friends for a morning walk in Cliffe Castle park on Sunday 17 December should look out for Santa-paws who will be in the park giving away dog biscuits and offering photos between 10.30am and 11.30am. Festive doggy outfits can be worn and donations for the Keighley Lions will be welcome.

On both Saturday 16 and Sunday 17  up from an illuminated art, music and light installation will take place at the bandstand in the park between 3pm and 6.30pm.

All the activities are free except the visits to Santa’s grotto which are £10 per child with all proceeds to the Keighley Lions.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year for children, and this is just one of a series of events we are holding in our museums and parks to help get people into the festive spirit.

“Tickets to see Santa at Cliffe Castle are limited, so people should get their tickets booked as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The event is raising money for the Keighley Lions a charity helping people in need across the world.”
