Alan Titchmarsh returns to Ilkley to 'open' new flower beds

Gardener and broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh was back in his home town this week to officially unveil the revamped Ilkley Station Plaza area.

He also judged a competition run for local primary school children, with Ashland's Primary the winning team for their floral creation.

Alan was greeted by the Mayor of Ilkley Mark Stidworthy, district councillor Anne Hawkesworth, Liz Horn from Bradford Council, Northern Rail staff and members of the newly-formed Friends of Ilkley Railway Station group.

After cutting the ribbon on the new flower beds, Alan took up the baton to conduct Otley Brass Band in a rendition of On Ilkla Moor Baht'at.

Contributing to the cost of the new flower beds were Ilkley BID, Project Rome, H Eaton & Sons, Roger Yaxley and Cllr Anne Hawkesworth in memory of her late husband John. Wharfedale Rotary Clubs and Moss & Moor contributed towards the planting costs.

You can watch a video below filmed at the event, with thanks to Naomi Terence.
