Applegarth bray-ces itself for bank holiday fun

Tilly the donkey!

Tilly the donkey will headline the fun with a guest appearance at The Applegarth Club's Bank Holiday Beach Party on Sunday August 27.

The traditional seaside donkey rides are just one of the activities lined up at the club on Banks Lane in Riddleston, a repeat of the hugely successful event held last year.

Along with sandpits, paddling pools, a bouncy castle and candy floss there will be performances by a number of local groups including Emi Hall’s Academy, Ockerby Academy, Voice of Yorkshire and Howarth Brass Band. Other games and stalls are also lined up and Peacocks of Bingley will sell a range of street food.

Twelve-year-old Tilly is based at Ludbrook’s Farm in Cottingley where she has lived for the past five years after coming over from Ireland for donkey ride duties.

Said organiser Emma Rigg: “Our beach party last year went down so well we wanted to repeat the event this summer – and it’s been a real coup for us to secure the services of Tilly the donkey! They’re such a traditional part of the English seaside and although the number of rides we can offer is limited, we’re delighted that Tilly can be there on the day.”

The club’s Seaside Sunday kicks off at noon and is free to enter.
