The King’s Hall and Winter Garden held its first Christmas Open Day last Sunday with over 500 people enjoying the entertainment and exploring what the venue in Ilkley has to offer.
Jan Bilke, the King’s Hall manager told Rombalds Radio: “After our very successful Christmas Open Day we would like to say a massive “thank you” to everybody involved in making the day fabulously festive and extraordinarily enjoyable for everybody attending!
“An amazing amount of people visited, with 100 children, and maybe a few more adults, finding the mischievous elves on the shelves. Not to forget over £1,000 was raised in support of charities including Dementia Friendly Action Ilkley and Ilkley Food Bank.
“Our special thanks go to Voices of Yorkshire Choir, the Ukrainian children choir and the Bring Me Sunshine Trio for providing some first class entertainment in the Kings Hall and keeping our visitors glued to their seats! Local historian Alex Cockshot delivered some well-attended and informative heritage tours of the King’s Hall and Winter Garden.
“Thanks to The Friends of King’s Hall and Winter Garden who sponsored and served mulled wine and mince pies all day, Chairman Richard Bradley, dressed in his elf costume, and Rachel Denison, dressed as Father Christmas. We would also like to show our appreciation to all those who helped promoting the event locally, especially Ilkley town crier Isabel Ashman, David Shaw, Nick Babb, as well as Rombalds Radio, Ilkley Chat and the Ilkley Gazette.”
During the day there was over £600 sales in raffle tickets alone and Jan and his team are grateful to all those who very generously purchased tickets and those who donated prices: Bradford Theatres for four tickets for the Alhambra Panto, Anne Hawkesworth for two tickets for her ABBA show in April, Moss & Moor, Ilkley MOT, Tennant & Darragh Jewellers, Betty’s, Martinez Wines, Beau Monde, Grove Book Shop, Co-Op Ilkley, Bath House, Nora’s, Olicana Stationery, Attic Womenswear, La Stazione, The Art Shop, Eric Spencer, Avanti Coffee Shop, Lily Pink, Pewter, Ilkley Brewery, Boots, M&S, Boyes and Howies Driving School.
