Homes plan to replace former church at Sandbeds

Wednesday, 13 September 2023 23:08

By Chris Young, Local Democracy Reporter

An empty church on the outskirts of Keighley could be demolished to make way for housing if new plans are approved.

The Church of Christ the King, between Bradford Road and the Leeds Liverpool Canal at Sandbeds, has been empty since closing in 2006.

It was one of several Catholic churches in the District to close that year.

Plans to demolish it and build a care home on the site were approved by Bradford Council in 2011, but the development never went ahead.

Subsequent plans to build housing on the site have either been refused or withdrawn by the developers.

But now a new application to pull down the church and build 13 houses on the site have been submitted by Chris Phillips.

There will be 12 semi detached homes and one detached home – a mix of three and four bed properties.

A decision on the application is expected in November.
