How will the new 'Rule of Six' affect Keighley, Ilkley & Skipton?

The new national 'Rule of Six' being introduced from 14th September will not apply in Keighley, which is still subject to additional local coronavirus restrictions.

In the wards of Keighley you will still not be able to meet with any other people in your home or garden - or in other indoor places such as restaurants, pubs and places of worship. In outdoor places like parks, you will still be able to meet with other people, but in groups of no more than six people.

These local rules apply in a total of 21 wards across the Bradford District including Keighley...

National restrictions

...but the rules above do not apply in Ilkley, Addingham, Silsden, Steeton, Haworth and Oakworth which have been subject to just the national restrictions since last Wednesday (2nd September).

From next Monday (14th September) in the 9 wards of Bradford released from local restrictions (Craven, Ilkley, Worth Valley, Baildon, Bingley, Bingley Rural, Shipley, Wharfedale, Windhill & Wrose), the new 'Rule of Six' restrictions will apply.  These new national rules will also apply across the Craven District Council area covering Skipton and surrounding villages, which have not been subject to any local restrictions.

This means that you must not meet with people from other households socially in groups of more than six - either indoors or outdoors.

Wherever you live in the district, two whole households will no longer be able to meet outdoors if together they would exceed the limit of six people.

There will be some exemptions - COVID-19 Secure venues, such as places of worship, restaurants and hospitality venues can still host larger numbers in total but groups of up to 6 must not mix or form larger groups. This rule will not apply to individual households or support bubbles of more than 6 who will still be able to gather together.

Educational establishments and workplaces are unaffected, and organised team sports will still be able to proceed - as will weddings and funerals up to a limit of 30 people.

Unsure which rules apply to you?

Bradford Council has a handy 'ward-checker', where you can enter your postcode and it will tell you whether you still need to comply with the additional local restrictions or not. Click here to use the Bradford District Covid-19 restrictions ward checker.

Hands, Face, Space

The government has also updated its national message to focus on the following:

  • HANDS – Wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds.

  • FACE – Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.

  • SPACE – Stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place.
