The Clarke Foley Community Centre in Ilkley is pleased to announce the appointment of new manager Joe Short and new trustee Isabel Ashman.

Joe will take over from interim manager David Damant on 1 December and has worked at the Centre for three years in various roles including Caretaker and Bookings manager, and is committed to ensuring the future success of the Centre.

Chair, Stuart Hyde QPM, said: "There were a number of exceptional candidates but Joe demonstrated all the abilities and commitment needed. He is well liked by the users of the Centre and being a very caring person has helped on many occasions when visitors have had challenging issues and is ideal to help take the Centre forward.

“Joe has worked very hard for the Clarke Foley and has been instrumental in helping us through Covid and the temporary closures, as well as restrictions resulting from the pandemic. We are very pleased for him and the way in which he has outlined his plans for the future. He faced strong competition and was able to show his strengths throughout the process.

"I am very happy that Clarke Foley is able to grow one of its own staff into this role and to help bring on a new manager.”

Joe said: “I am very grateful for the Board having trust in me and giving me the opportunity to grow into this role. I love working here with the many staff and volunteers and am passionate about the Centre’s mission to provide our customers with a unique and welcoming place to meet in the town centre."

In addition the Clarke Foley is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Trustee, Isabel Ashman. In addition to her nine year service as Ilkley’s Town Crier, Isabel was instrumental in the success of Ilkley’s first Pride event in July.

Isabel said: “ The Clarke Foley is a wonderful place with activities for people of all ages, and really does help provide solace, support and comfort to the mature residents of the town. I am delighted to have been appointed as a trustee and look forward to the part I can play in continuing and expanding that delivery.”
