Ilkley's Elvis night raises £1,100 for hospital unit

Colin Paul are Deborah Walkington, Nicola Wheeler and Patricia Thommesen from Airedale Hospital.

An "Elvis and Friends' tribute night at the Hollygarth social club in Ilkley has raised £1,100 for Airedale Hospital's Haematology and Oncology Day Unit.

The HODU provides care for patients with a variety of haematology and oncology conditions, many of whom visit the unit on a regular basis for chemotherapy and other treatments.

Regular fundraiser Nicola Wheeler organised the “Elvis & Friends” night to raise vital funds for the Unit, which included Elvis tribute act Colin Paul as well as a raffle with prizes from local businesses.

Nicola explains: “We had seen Colin Paul perform at a fundraiser earlier in the year and thought it would be great if we could organise our own event to keep up the momentum and raise more money for HODU.

"Having seen the amazing work the unit does and how much patients benefit from donations we are very grateful for the support given both by local business who very generously donated raffle prizes and to everyone who bought tickets and came on the night to make this such a successful event. It was so successful we will do it again next year."

Jodie Hearnshaw, manager at Airedale Hospital & Community Charity, adds: “This is an incredible amount for HODU - we are so grateful to Nicola, who is such a great fundraiser and supporter of the Unit.  The team on HODU will be able to use these funds to continue to improve the facilities and experience for the patients using the unit.”
