Independent Bookshop Week to be celebrated in Ilkley

Next week, 17th to 23rd June, is Independent Bookshop Week and The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley will be celebrating with some special guests in the shop.

Manager of bookshop Mike Sansbury talks us through the line-up: "On Monday 19th at 7pm we have local investigative journalist Peter Woolrich talking about his novel, A Corroded Soul, which tells the story of how a man's family relationships lead to a troubled adulthood. This is a free event.

"Then on Wednesday 21st at 7pm we have two crime writers, Leona Deakin and J.M. Hall, discussing their work in two very different areas of crime fiction.Leona is a criminal psychologist whose heroine, Dr Augusta Bloom, appears in four books. The latest adventure is called The Imposter. Jonathan Hall, in contrast, is the author of two "cosy" crime stories, the most recent being A Pen Dipped ion Poison, featuring a pair of crime-busting retired teachers in Thirsk. Leona and Jonathan will be discussing their approaches to crime writing and tickets are £5.

"Our final Bookshop Week event is on Thursday 22nd June with Liam Thomas, a former undercover police detective whose memoir, The Buyer, explores his life and career in thoughtful, moving detail. Tickets are £5, redeemable against the price of the book on the night.

"The following week, on Thursday 29th June at 7pm, we host a launch for local writer Phil Batman, whose book, Our Ethel, is just out. Phil is a pathologist and his book looks at a miscarriage of justice in 1950s York. Tickets are free."
