Keighley driver given two-year ban for dangerous overtake

A man from Keighley has been banned from driving for two years after dash-cam footage of a dangerous manoeuvre was sent to police.

The man pleaded guilty to dangerous driving yesterday (Wednesday 9th September) and as well as the driving ban was ordered by Bradford Magistrates Court to pay £119 in costs and carry out 200 hours of community service.

The overtake was spotted by a driver on Halifax Road in the town, close to Ingrow station, at lunchtime on 2nd July this year.

Dashcam footage was submitted to West Yorkshire Police's 'Safer Roads' website. Officers then tracked down the lorry that was overtaken in the footage and got more video pictures from an alternative angle to assist with the prosecution.

In the footage released by the police, the black Toyota Yaris can be seen on the wrong side of the road passing two lorries and cutting back to the correct side of the road after narrowly avoiding a head-on collision.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "If you spot somebody driving carelessly on our roads, you can submit dash cam footage through our website."

Officers want to receive footage of driving offences - it is not a method for sending videos of collisions, or public order offences and is not a way to report crime.
