Local GPs to run in Mascot Gold Cup for Manorlands

Doctors and others staff from local GP surgeries are supporting Manorlands Hospice through their participation in the Wetherby Mascot Gold Cup later this month.

The team from the Modality AWC partnership has 11 runners in the race on Sunday 28th April.

Dr Marie Watson and Dr Nick Bird are both running again, having completed the Keighley 10K in mascot costumes earlier in the year. Dr Marie Watson said: “Like many people I lost a parent to cancer not so long ago so I am delighted my colleagues are stepping up to support Sue Ryder Manorlands.”

Dr Nick Bird added: “We hope the Mascot Gold cup isn’t as muddy and wet as the Keighley 10K but we are looking forward to some good going and some heavy fundraising!”

Local doctor and executive partner Dr Brendan Kennedy – running in the Mascot Gold Cup as the "Long Lee Leprauchaun" said: “We employ over 400 people locally and our team really values the support Manorlands can give patients and families at the most crucial times in life.

"We have supported Manorlands informally over the years, but we really wanted to help promote and fundraise for one of our vital local charities. We are delighted to be supporting the Mascot Gold Cup which is such a great fun event in the racing calendar!

Later in the year the Modality surgeries will be raising funds for Manorlands with a family day for local healthcare staff and their families.
