Robbie Moore MP has called for further progress to be made on delivering good quality broadband access to homes and businesses across Keighley and Ilkley.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr Moore noted that progress has been made on the matter, including an additional 25,000 houses being connected to fast gigabit broadband last year.
However, in parts of his constituency, including in the Worth Valley, Silsden and Utley, there are still households and businesses who have contacted their MP asking for an improvement on the matter. Mr Moore therefore raised these concerns and asked for an update on the government’s plans to deliver to deliver full-fibre and gigabit-capable broadband by 2025.
In her response, the Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries noted that 82% of households in the Keighley and Ilkley constituency have a gigabit-capable connection, which is above the national average. She however acknowledged Mr Moore’s question, and assured him that the next rollout of high quality broadband across the area will begin early next year.
Robbie Moore MP said: “Broadband coverage is a real issue in parts of my constituency, with businesses and the local economy being held back as a result.
"I do of course welcome the improvements that are being made on this, including an additional 25,000 homes in my constituency being equipped with good quality broadband last year, meaning coverage is above the national average. However, some areas still require improvement, which is why I welcome there will be further rollouts next year.
"Of course, there is a lot going on in Westminster at the moment. However, local issues like this have always been and always will be my priority as an MP and I will keep pushing for the changes we all want to see.”
