MP calls for local NHS champions

2023 shortlisted nominees for the Rising Star Award, Elise & Rochelle Featherstone with Robbie Moore

Ilkley and Keighley MP Robbie Moore is calling for nominations for the official NHS Parliamentary Awards 2024.

Established in 2018 to mark the NHS’ 70th birthday, the NHS Parliamentary Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of staff going above and beyond for their communities to deliver excellence in healthcare. The Awards have continued to grow year on year, with over 750 individuals or teams being nominated by MPs in 2023.

As in previous years, competition across all ten categories is likely to be tough, as countless staff, carers and volunteers from all across the NHS have come together in recent times to realise some remarkable achievements.

Mr Moore is now searching for outstanding nominees for the 2024 Awards who have innovated, impressed, and made a real difference to how the health and care system provides for patients.

Nominations close on Friday 19 April, and all of those shortlisted by the national judging panel will be invited to an awards ceremony in Westminster to celebrate their fantastic achievements alongside the MPs who nominated them.

Commenting on the 2024 Awards, Robbie Moore MP said: “As I call for nominations for this year’s NHS Parliamentary Awards, I want to pay tribute to all of the hardworking NHS staff across Keighley, Ilkley, Silsden and the Worth Valley for the superb care they provide to patients every single day.

The NHS would be nothing without its fantastic staff and volunteers, and these awards are a unique opportunity to highlight and celebrate some of their incredible work.

I want to hear from you about any outstanding care that you have received in the last year. If you would like to nominate a local healthcare hero for any of the ten categories, please do visit: england.nhs.uk/nhs-parliamentary-awards/how-to-nominate/

Professor Sir Stephen Powis, chair of the judging panel and NHS England’s National Medical Director, said: “The NHS, with its principle of free healthcare at the point of use, is one of the country’s most valued institutions, and at the heart of it is its dedicated workforce.

“The 2024 NHS Parliamentary Awards play a crucial role in allowing us to celebrate our hardworking staff, who thanks to their efforts this year helped the NHS deliver significant levels of patient care.

“Whether it be clinicians, allied health professionals, medical associates, scientists, volunteers, clerical staff, porters, emergency responders – all our staff are united in their mission to deliver the best care for patients. Our NHS would be nothing without them.”

The local MP is calling for potential nominations in the following categories:

  1. The Excellence in Education and Training Award: To recognise individuals or teams that excel at innovative approaches to education and training.
  2. The Excellence in Healthcare Award: To recognise individuals or teams who go above and beyond to either prevent major health conditions or improve outcomes and experiences for patients living with and beyond them.
  3. The Excellence in Mental Health Care Award: To the individual or team that has worked across organisational boundaries to develop new and effective services to help people living with mental health problems in their community.
  4. The Volunteer Award: For volunteers working to support the NHS to provide excellent care for patients, helping them to keep healthy and well.
  5. The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award: To the individual or team that has made improvements in how the NHS treats people in life and death situations.
  6. The Excellence in Primary Care and Community Care Award: As the needs of patients and the wider NHS evolve, so does the role of these professionals; this award seeks to recognise practitioners and teams in primary or community care that are working with patients to help them stay healthy and avoid long stays in hospital or being admitted in the first place.
  7. The Future NHS Award: This seeks to highlight individuals, teams and organisations that are successfully embracing the opportunities that come from innovation and advances in medical technology, data and connectivity.
  8. The Health Equalities Award: For an individual or organisation that has helped the NHS to do its bit by bringing together different groups and organisations to reduce health inequalities and prevent ill health in different communities.
  9. The Nursing and Midwifery Award: For any nurse or midwife that has used their skills to ensure that patients experience care and compassion, and have driven improvements in their service.
  10. The Lifetime Achievement Award: For an individual who has worked within a health or care setting for 40 years or more and has left a positive legacy.
