New Mayor & Deputy Mayor for Keighley 

Keighley's new Town Mayor, Cllr Gulfraz Hussain and Cllr Chris Herd, Deputy Town Mayor

On Thursday 28th March 2024, Keighley Town Council nominated its new Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor for the forthcoming municipal year.

Cllr Gulfraz Hussain was nominated as Town Mayor and Cllr Chris Herd was nominated as Deputy Town Mayor.

Cllr Hussain is a Councillor for the Highfield ward. He was first elected to the Council in 2015 until 2019 and he was re-elected 2023 and has served as Deputy Town mayor in 2023/24.

Following his nomination, Cllr Hussain commented, “I am proud to have been nominated as the Keighley Town Mayor for the civic year 24-25. It will be a great honour to become the Mayor of Keighley and it will be my privilege to represent our communities. I am looking forward to fighting for what Keighley and its community deserves. My main focus this year will be community cohesion and promoting our wonderful town. I am looking forward to meeting residents and hearing how best the town council can support them going forward.”

Cllr Chris Herd was nominated as Deputy Town Mayor. Cllr Herd, who represents Bracken Bank and Ingrow Ward was first elected in 2016 and has served as Vice Chair of the Human Resources Committee.

Cllr Herd commented, “"It is an immense honour to further my passion for helping my town, Keighley, grow and become successful.” 

Cllr Chris Herd is also a district councillor for Bradford Metropolitan District Council for Worth Valley and sits on the Bronte Country Partnership Group.

Both nominations will be formalised and approved at the Annual meeting of the Council which takes place on Thursday 16 May.
