Plan for warehouses on old Keighley mill site

The site of a former weaving mill in Keighley could soon be home to modern warehouse units if new plans are approved.

Devonshire Mills was built in 1909 as one of the town’s many industrial buildings.

The mill was demolished in 2005, and the site on West Lane has remained empty since.

Now a new planning application to build two, two storey industrial units on the North West corner of the site has been submitted to Bradford Council by Keighley based building company Terra Firma.

If approved, the plans would create 640 square metres of warehouse space on the empty site.

The application is only for a small section of the large site, and the application shows the bulk of the empty site will “remain unchanged.”

A decision on the application is expected in early October.

The site has a long planning history. Numerous different application to build homes on the site have been approved over the years – but work on these homes has never materialised.

In 2021 an application to convert the site into a waste and recycling sorting business was submitted to Bradford Council.

The plan proved to be controversial, with over 200 people objecting to the proposals.

Council planners refused the application in early 2022.
