Reduced speed limit and cameras planned for A650 between Keighley and Shipley

Bradford Council is proposing to lower the speed limit to 50mph on the dual carriageway between Keighley and Shipley and introduce average speed cameras.

The council says the scheme aims to improve road safety and address concerns about on-going speeding issues which have been raised by the police and local residents.

The reduction in speed limit to 50mph will then cover the whole stretch of road between the Marley roundabout at Keighley and the roundabout near the Yorkshire Clinic at Cottingley. The Bingley bypass section is already subject to a 50mph speed limit so this change extends the restriction between Crossflatts and Keighley.

The project is expected to cost £230,000 and uses road safety funding which the council has bid for from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.

Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw said: “I am happy that we've been able to secure the finance to be able to deliver this much needed road safety scheme. The public, police and local councillors have raised concerns about speeding and anti-social driving on this stretch of road and this scheme is designed to reduce this.

"These cameras ensure a high level of speed compliance and lead to a reduce the number of serious and fatal incidents, they also allow the police to concentrate on other matters in the district.”
