Six year old Brody signs up for charity CPR-a-thon

A six year old boy is among those challenging themselves to take part in next month's CPR-a-thon in Skipton to raise money for the Airedale Hospital & Community Charity.

Brody, supported by his little brother Toby, will perform CPR for as long as he can to support the fundraiser at Morrisons in Skipton on 17th February.

He first learned how to perform CPR from Emergency Service Day at Halifax Piece Hall with Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who brought dummies to practice on.

Brody has already raised an incredible £132 on JustGiving. Brody said: “I would LOVE to help raise some money for the hospital!”

His mum, Tracy, works as a medical secretary at Airedale. She says: “Brody is really looking forward to brushing up on his CPR skills. CPR is extremely hard and tiring, so it’s all about whatever he can learn and achieve from the experience.

“Anyone who participates in the CPR-a-thon will be learning a vital skill that can save lives.”

Rombalds Radio will be broadcasting from the event, which will run for 12 hours from 8am to 8pm on Saturday 17th February in support of the hospital's Emergency Department Appeal.

Local people and businesses are encouraged to come along, either with a group of friends to work as a team, or to take on the challenge on their own, to raise money for the charity through sponsorship – all while learning life-saving skills from the Airedale Emergency Department team.

Laura Hepworth, Community Fundraiser for AHCC, said: “We’re so excited to welcome Brody to our event and to see how long he can do CPR. It’s such a big challenge for him to take on, and we’re so grateful that he has chosen to do it to fundraise for our charity.”

The Emergency Department Appeal aims to raise £150,000 to refurbish the paediatric waiting area, the paediatric resuscitation area, and the bereavement facilities, which have become worn after being in use for nine years. The appeal was set up with the aim to improve the comfort of patients and their families during their stay at the Emergency Department.
