The final total of money raised by the 2023 Great Skipton Santa Fun Run has been announced, with a net amount of £48,627 being sent to local good causes.
The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven added another £11,000 to that amount through Santa's appearances at supermarkets in the town and fundraising from the Santa sleigh's visits to local neighbourhoods.
The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run took place on Sunday 26th November 2003. 1,848 people ran, walked or wheel-chaired their way around a 5km or 3km course through the streets of Skipton, Aireville Park and Skipton Woods, to raise money for Sue Ryder Manorlands, Marie Curie and other local charities. The £48,627 raised includes sponsorship for participating teams and individuals who were supporting their selected charities - as well as money from sponsors and donations.
The Santa supermarket collections at Morrisons and Tesco in Skipton in the run up to Christmas raised £2,707, while the Santa sleigh added another £8,190.
That means the total raised through all the Christmas fundraising by Rotary Club of Skipton Craven was an amazing £59,524.
Colin Hargreaves, President of The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven said: “Once again, the people of Skipton and Craven have shown their generosity in supporting our Christmas fundraising activities, and for that I wish to extend my grateful thanks.
"We have already started to distribute funds to worthy local causes, including our principal charities: Sue Ryder Manorlands and Marie Curie.
"To my colleagues at the Rotary Club of Skipton Craven, the volunteers at our partnership charity Skipton Step into Action, Skipton Town Council, Rombalds Radio, our Santa Fun Run Sponsors and all our Rotary Friends who helped us with our Christmas fundraising activities I offer a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for your efforts, and wish all a very happy New Year.”
