Skipton's Library of Things asks for views ahead of launch

Share Skipton, the group behind a new 'Library of Things' in the town is running a survey so that local people can help shape how it develops.

The new volunteer-led community initiative says it aims to promote sustainable living, reduce waste, and foster a sharing economy in Skipton and the surrounding areas.

People will be to borrow a wide range of stuff - from tools and appliances to toys and sports equipment - at a fraction of the cost of buying them outright, whilst saving on storage and also helping the planet.

Ahead of the launch, a survey is running to help the team understand what people might like to borrow, what they might be able to donate and how the library might run.

"We need your help!” said Angela Monaghan, Chair of Share Skipton. "By filling in our online survey, you will help shape our Library of Things and make sure we truly cater to what the people of Skipton want. It only takes 3-4 minutes to complete, and we’d love people of all ages and backgrounds to take part.”

Over the past few weeks, Share Skipton has been engaging with the wider Skipton community through drop-ins at Skipton Library and a stall at Skipton Pride. The response from local residents has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic and highlights the potential for Share Skipton to create a long-lasting impact.

If you are interested in getting more involved, Share Skipton is also seeking someone to join their friendly steering group as Treasurer. You don’t need to be financially qualified and this is a fantastic opportunity to support an exciting, new community initiative.

Also, Share Skipton is on the lookout for suitable premises to operate the Library of Things. If you have available space or know of potential locations that could be used, Share Skipton would love to hear from you.
