The King’s Hall in Ilkley is about to witness an extraordinary event as the curtains rise for the highly anticipated and enchanting musical production of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Presented by Upstagers Theatre Group, this timeless classic promises to transport audiences of all ages on a magical journey filled with imagination, a heartwarming story and unforgettable songs and routines. The show opens on Wednesday 19th July and runs until Saturday 22nd July with five performances including a matinee on Saturday.

Based on the 1968 MGM Motion Picture, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” is adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The licensed script is adapted by Ray Roderick. It has captured the hearts of millions worldwide, and now this award winning musical is set to captivate Ilkley audiences like never before. With its blend of enchanting storytelling, captivating performances and spectacular sets, this production is destined to be an unforgettable experience.

Prepare to be transported to the magical land of Vulgaria, where the eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, played by the talented local actor, Alex Wright, embarks on a whimsical adventure with his children, Jeremy and Jemima Potts (Joseph Taylor and Kitty Moore). Together, they restore an old racing car, which magically transforms into the marvelous flying automobile, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Buckle up as the Potts family, along with their charming friend Truly Scrumptious played by Upstagers stalwart Emily Brook, embark on a thrilling adventure to rescue Grandpa Potts (Mike Riley) from the clutches of the dastardly Baron and Baroness Bomburst (Upstagers Royalty, George Scaife and Ruby Hendry) and the wicked Childcatcher (Alex Bower).

Featuring a talented cast of performers, dazzling choreography, and a delightful score by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman, including the timeless classics "Truly Scrumptious," "Hushabye Mountain,", Me Ol’ Bamboo and of course, the unforgettable "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," this production will transport audiences back to a world filled with wonder and childhood innocence.

"The magic of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' lies in its ability to capture the hearts and imaginations of both young and old," says co-director John Clark. "We have assembled an incredibly talented team of actors, dancers and musicians to bring this beloved story to life, and we can't wait to share the magic with audiences. At its heart, Chitty is a story about imagination and always making sure that your dreams are larger than your fears. It’s a theme that seems very apt for a youth theatre group.”

Co-director Andrew Hewitt says “Seeing our Chitty car arrive at the theatre this weekend was magical in itself! People stopped to watch as she made her way in to the theatre where we will create theatre magic so she can fly high in the auditorium. When we started preparing for this show all those months ago, we thought that flying Chitty in the theatre would be spectacular, but honestly, now she is here it is even better than we anticipated! I hope we’ll be able to fill the auditorium later this week so adults and kids alike can experience the magic of the show”.
