St George celebrated in Keighley

Keighley Town Mayor in the stocks

Keighley Town Council hosted its annual St George’s Day family fun day on Sunday 21 April in the Airedale Shopping Centre.

The event saw Punch and Judy shows, balloon modelling, medieval stilt walkers, circus shows and workshops and face painting. There was also an arts and crafts workshop run by Keighley Creative.

Attendees also had the opportunity to put the Town Mayor, Cllr John Kirby, in the stocks!

The winner of our guess the number of sweets in a jar was won by Sadie who guessed a total of 453 with the actual amount being 454. Thanks to Cocos for donating the jar of sweets.

Town Mayor, Cllr John Kirby said ‘The event was very well attended and it was great to see so many people come to celebrate St George’s Day. Thank you to everyone who came, all our acts and artists and to the Airedale Shopping Centre for being our venue host.’

The next event to look out for is the 80th commemoration of D-Day, which will be held in the Town Hall Square on Thursday 6 June. More details on the commemorations will be announced shortly.
