Starlight Hike through Worth Valley to raise money for Manorlands Hospice

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is adding a shorter 5km route to its annual walk under the stars this autumn, as well as the usual 10km.

The Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Worth Valley is back on the evening of Saturday 7th October, with local residents invited to take part in the walk to raise money for the hospice.

From 7pm on the night, walkers sporting fancy dress, flashing headwear and neon face paint will be invited to board the Starlight Express train at Oxenhope Railway Station to be transported to the start of the walk, before heading out on either a 5km or 10km route around the Worth Valley villages.

There will also be an opportunity for participants to pass through the tranquil grounds of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and place a poignant dedication in honour of someone special to them. Crossing the finishing line, walkers will be rewarded with a well-deserved medal and the knowledge that they’ve done something amazing to remember those close.

Hayley Ibbotson, Senior Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to bring our community together again this year for a special evening in celebration of loved ones, while raising funds so that Sue Ryder can continue to be there when it matters for families going through the most difficult times of their lives.

“Our Sue Ryder teams work tirelessly to ensure that our patients' symptoms and pain are managed so that the end of people’s lives can instead be filled with friendship, family, and love in those final moments together, and by taking part in Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Worth Valley you will be helping us to provide more expert and compassionate palliative care and bereavement support to more people.

“We’d also like to thank Stirk Lambert & Co Accountants for their ongoing support of the event, as well as Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, for putting on the incredible Starlight Express Train to help make this a truly special and memorable night. We are extremely grateful for their support.”

Richard Hudson from Stirk Lambert & Co Accountants said: “We’re really proud to be sponsoring the Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Worth Valley for the seventh year, a charity which provides invaluable support to so many people in our community. This is an evening not to be missed and we hope that lots of walkers will pull on their brightest outfits for a night under the stars to celebrate the lives of loved ones as well as helping to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder’s care.”

Tickets for the Starlight Hike are £18 for adults and £10 for children aged 6 to 17. Under 5s are free. Those registering before 10th September 2023 will get a 20% discount, and there are also discounts available for groups of 10 or more people.
