Two killed after vehicle crashes off Skipton bypass

Police say a man and a woman in their 70s have died after a vehicle crashed off the Skipton western bypass on Saturday and landed near the canal on Broughton Road.

Officers say a dark red Vauxhall Grandland which was travelling on the A629 towards Keighley from Skipton left the carriageway and off the bridge section.

It happened at 1.20pm today (Saturday 21st October 2023). The A629 and Broughton Road were both closed for several hours while investigations were carried out.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 70s from West Yorkshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger, also in her 70s, was taken to hospital in a critical condition but was pronounced a short time later.

Their next of kin have been informed.

North Yorkshire Police is asking for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact them by calling 101 or by emailing geri.tunney@northyorkshire.police.uk
