Works to repair Haworth textile mill is approved

Thursday, 11 August 2022 16:53

By Chris Young, Local Democracy Reporter

One of the district’s last remaining operating textile mills will undergo renovation work that will include solar panels being installed on the roof.

Grade II listed Bridgehouse Mills in Haworth dates back to 1847, and is still in good condition despite being damaged in a huge fire in 1912.

Wyedean Weaving Company, a military uniform manufacturer, took on a mid 19th century built part of the site in 1964 and are still based there today.

Earlier this year the company submitted a planning application to Bradford Council to allow work to the Grade II listed building.

The work will see damaged parts of the roof repaired or replaced, and the installation of 16 rooftop solar panels.

The company also plans to repair a damaged finial on one of the building’s turrets.

The application has now been approved by Bradford Council.

Officers said the work will protect the building’s future, and the modern solar panels would not be visible from street level.
