A new £20million programme aimed at supporting the long-term regeneration of Keighley has been launched.
The government-funded Pride in Place programme will see investment made in the town over the next 10 years, with local residents, businesses and community groups involved in shaping how it is used. The programme will focus on seven areas, including improving the town centre, renewing heritage assets, supporting businesses, creating safer communities and developing opportunities for young people. Plans also include strengthening Keighley's cultural and natural connections with Brontë Country and increasing local involvement in decision-making. Bradford Council's Executive Member for Economy, Regeneration and Planning, Cllr Andrew Judson, called on local businesses to support the programme while speaking at the Keighley Business Awards on Friday (25th September). He said: “I see first-hand the pride people have in this town, its rich heritage, strong community spirit and the determination to build an even brighter future for generations to come. “I firmly believe that regeneration is far more than buildings and infrastructure. "It is about creating confidence, attracting investment, supporting enterprise and ensuring that our town centres and neighbourhoods remain places where businesses can prosper and communities can thrive.” The £20million programme follows the government's Keighley Towns Fund, through which the town secured up to £33.6million for regeneration, jobs and training. Cllr Judson added: “Pride in Place gives us the opportunity to build on that success through a long-term vision for Keighley to create a strong town centre, support local communities, and ensure our businesses can continue to prosper for years to come. “Under the continued leadership of Chair Tim Rogers, the Keighley Neighbourhood Board will ensure local voices and business priorities remain at the heart of our decision-making. “The best ideas, energy and solutions already exist within our communities. Pride in Place is about bringing people together, building on local strengths, and supporting residents to play an active role in making positive change happen.” Previous council documents confirm the £20million funding is spread over 10 years, with 75% allocated to capital spending and 25% to revenue. Residents, community organisations and businesses are being encouraged to get involved as plans for the programme develop.
