Dozens of hikers raise £5k for dementia charity on Skipton Three Peaks

Around 40 people took part in Dementia Forward's Skipton Three Peaks challenge at the weekend.

The 18-mile walk on Sunday (21st September) saw them scale Sharp Haw, Embsay Crag and Skipton Moor in wall-to-wall sunshine.

They have raised more than £5,000 for Dementia Forward, which provides practical and emotional support to thousands of people living with dementia across North Yorkshire and York.

Patrick Dunlop, one of the charity’s Dementia Support Advisors, was among those who completed the challenge.

He said:

“It was a fantastic way to support the charity which is a real lifeline for families in Skipton and further afield. As you would expect, parts of the route are very challenging, but knowing how much of a difference it will make to so many people really does keep you going.

“Everyone I spoke to on the walk told me how much they had enjoyed it and many of them are already planning to sign up for next year’s event.”

Amy Senior, Fundraising Lead for Dementia Forward, added:

“We are so grateful to everyone who put on their walking boots and joined us for this year’s challenge. Not only did the walkers raise a fantastic amount to help support our services in the area, but they created such a positive and supportive atmosphere on the day. We can’t wait to welcome even more walkers next year.”

Skipton Community Sports Hub was ‘base camp’ for the fundraisers and provided much-needed refreshments before and after the walk.

The event was sponsored by Home Instead Ilkley which provides care to people in the Skipton area.

Co-owner Simon White said:

“Home Instead is proud to support Dementia Forward with a growing event for such a deserving cause. A great day was had by all and the hard work of so many led to a hugely successful fundraising effort.”

The Skipton Three Peaks challenge will take place for the third year running on 20th September 2026.
