Fire service respond to reports of fallen stonework in Skipton

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident in Skipton following reports of falling stonework from a building.

At 21:30 last night the crew from Skipton Fire Station, along with an aerial ladder platform from Acomb, responded after North Yorkshire Police raised concerns about stonework coming loose from the fourth storey of a building.

The building is located near the Skipton Building Society, Skipton Branch.

Firefighters worked to remove the unstable sections to ensure public safety.

Once the area was made secure, the incident was handed over to North Yorkshire Highways, who installed fencing around the site to prevent access until further repairs can be carried out.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service regularly works with other agencies such as the police and highways teams to respond to incidents that may pose a risk to the public.

This cooperation ensures that hazards like falling debris can be dealt with quickly and safely.

The service has reminded residents and business owners that building maintenance plays an important role in preventing similar incidents.

Weather, age, and general wear and tear can cause structures to deteriorate over time, and loose stone or masonry can present a danger in busy town centres.

No injuries were reported, and the swift response meant that the risk to the public was minimised.
