Sir Julian Smith MP for Skipton and Ripon, has welcomed extra funding for stop smoking services.
The funding of an additional £642,891 in government funding for North Yorkshire's stop-smoking services will go into effect in the 2025-2026 period.
This investment is part of a nationwide £70 million initiative aimed at supporting local authority-led services to help smokers quit.
The funding allocations have been determined based on the proportion of smokers in each local authority, using average smoking prevalence data from 2021 to 2023.
Julian commented:
"I welcome this investment in North Yorkshire's stop smoking services.
"Smoking remains a leading cause of preventable illness and death, and this funding will provide vital support to those looking to quit.
"I encourage all smokers in our community to take advantage of the resources available to help them lead healthier lives."
Individuals seeking support to quit smoking can access a range of resources and personalised plans through the NHS Better Health initiative.
