Rebecca Fox and her mum Tracey Cooper are preparing for an 8-day journey to walk part of the Great Wall of China later this year.
The mother and daughter duo aim to raise £5,000 for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity as part of their challenge on Saturday 20th September.
The funds raised will support children and families under the care of the Paediatric Diabetes team.
This is a cause close to both women’s hearts.
Rebecca is a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse herself, and both her and her Mum Tracey have experienced the impact type 1 diabetes can have on a family.
Rebecca said:
“My sister was my inspiration to become a children’s diabetes nurse.
"She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 5 so as a family, we have all witnessed the struggles our mum has been through as a parent of a child with type 1 diabetes.”
Rebecca added:
“This challenge is a great way to raise money and awareness for something deeply personal,” said Rebecca. “We’ve seen first-hand the difference support can make.”
Their eight-day trek is demanding. The route will include winding paths as well as over 10,000 steep and uneven steps along the historic wall.
Charity Manager Jodie Hearnshaw said,
“Rebecca and Tracey’s commitment is incredible, and we’re proud to support them in this amazing effort.”
