Local MP Sir Julian Smith is calling on local community groups and other organisations to apply for £1.35million in funding.
The MP for Ripon and Skipton is urging groups to seize a new opportunity to secure funding for vital improvements to local community buildings.
A £1.35 million Community Building Programme, launched by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, is now open for applications until 4th august 2025.
The initiative is backed by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF), with an additional £600,000 committed by York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith.
The funding aims to support more than 20 local hubs, from village halls to cricket grounds across the region.
Julian Smith MP said:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for our rural communities to secure funding for vital improvements to village halls, sports pavilions, and other community hubs,"
He added:
“These buildings are the heart of our local life, places where people gather, support one another, and access essential services. I strongly urge all eligible groups to consider applying.”
The fund is centred around two themes: Accessible Communities and Healthy Spaces.
Grants will support projects that enhance access for all, boost energy efficiency, and create outdoor environments that promote both mental and physical wellbeing.
Earlier this year, Julian visited Cononley Village Institute, a shining example of how previous funding has made a difference.
A £36,654 grant from the UKSPF helped transform the 116-year-old building through a year-long retrofit project that improved its energy efficiency and sustainability.
Upgrades included the installation of solar panels, enhances insulation, modernised glazing, and energy-efficient lighting, all made possible by a mix of government funding and local fundraising efforts.
