MP urges locals to seek support following Ofgem price cap changes

From 1st October, OfGem made change to the energy prices, price cap resulting in a 10% increase in average annual costs for households using electricity and gas and paying by Direct Debit.

This results in an average extra £12 a month on household bills.

Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, is urging households in need of help with their bills to contact their suppliers to ask what help may be available.   

Commenting, Julian said,

“The 10% rise in the energy price cap is concerning for many constituents."

“Despite challenges posed by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the previous Government supported low-income households.

However, the current Labour Government has removed up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payments from 10 million pensioners, leaving them with higher bills and less support. I urge the Government reconsider this urgently.

He added,

“Anyone concerned about their bills, and is in need of support, should contact their energy supplier in the first instance.

Suppliers can offer various options such as payment plans, reviews of current payments and debt repayments, payment breaks or reductions, more time to pay and access to hardship funds.

Suppliers can also provide advice on reducing energy usage.

He added that any constituents in need of support should contact him via email at julian.smith.mp@parliament.uk.
