Plans announced to lift 30mph speed limit at busy Skipton roundabout

North Yorkshire Council has outlined plans to remove the current 30mph speed limit from several roads surrounding Grassington Road Roundabout in Skipton.

The proposal, titled “Derestriction Speed Limit, Grassington Road Roundabout, Skipton, Order 2025”, would replace an earlier 1986 traffic order and update how speed limits are designated on approach roads to the roundabout.

If approved, the order would remove the 30mph restriction from:

  • The entire circulatory section of Grassington Road Roundabout (A65)
  • The A65 between Stirton Roundabout and Grassington Road Roundabout, up to 147 metres west of the roundabout
  • The B6265 Grassington Road, 94 metres north of the roundabout
  • The A65 towards Cross Bank, 66 metres east of the roundabout
  • The B6265 Grassington Road, 70 metres south-east of the roundabout
  • Raikes Road, 84 metres south-west of the roundabout

According to the council, the proposal is intended to bring the area’s speed limit orders up to date and simplify existing traffic regulations.

Residents and road users can view the draft order and detailed maps at County Hall in Northallerton or at Skipton Library on the High Street (BD23 1JX) during normal opening hours until 13 November 2025. The documents are also available online at North Yorkshire Council’s website.

Anyone wishing to comment or object to the plans must do so in writing by 13 November 2025, either by post to:
Traffic Management, North Yorkshire Council, County Hall, Racecourse Lane, Northallerton DL7 8AD,
or by email to Traffic.management@northyorks.gov.uk.
