On Wednesday 22nd January, Police discovered equipment attached to an ATM in Skipton designed to obtain card details.
The scamming device was attached to the Nat West ATM located at the bottom of Skipton High Street.
A member of the public noticed suspicious looking wires and removed the equipment.
The police believe the equipment was designed to obtain card details of those using the ATM.
North Yorkshire Police announced the fraudalent activity via Facebook saying:
"It is not believed that any card details have been obtained at this time
"Were you on the High Street around this time?
"Did you see anyone acting suspiciously around the location? "
"Any suspicious looking vehicles?
"If you have any information that may assist pls contact us on 101 quoting ref number 12250013399 OIC PC 872 SAHOTA"
The police would also like to take the opportunity to remind the public to be vigilant when using ATMs:
- - Always check for any devices - checking for anything that doesn't look right such as unexplained wires or boxes - check for loose fittings
- - Always cover your card number with your hand, wallet or purse
- - Be aware of anyone standing nearby or behind you whilst using the machine
- - If you are not happy about anything use another ATM if available
- - If you see anything suspicious pls report to the bank or owner of ATM location and police
