Skipton encouraged to use new grant to tackle isolation

Communities across Skipton and Ripon are being encouraged to apply for a new funding opportunity designed to help tackle rural isolation and improve wellbeing through physical activity.

The Movement, Activity and Sport Investment Programme, supported by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, offers grants for local projects that aim to help people stay active, particularly in areas with limited access to facilities or organised groups.

Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP said the initiative could make a real difference to small communities across the region.

“Rural isolation remains a serious challenge in parts of the Skipton and Ripon constituency.

"This fund is a fantastic opportunity for local groups, volunteers and organisations to create or expand activities that bring people together and improve physical and mental health.

“I strongly encourage anyone with an idea to apply.”

Funding can be used to support a range of initiatives, including events, equipment, facilities and training.

Applicants do not need an existing background in sport or physical activity, and guidance is available to help develop ideas and ensure projects address local needs.
