Skipton will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings with a day of events on Thursday 6th June.
The day will begin with Skipton's Town Crier, Kevin Griffiths, delivering the D-Day 80 Proclamation outside Skipton Town Hall at 8am.
In the evening the bells of Holy Trinity church at the top of the High Street will ring out for peace at 6.30pm. There will then be a special service at 8.45pm, followed by the lighting of a D-Day 80 Beacon at 9.15pm.
Union flags will be flying on Skipton High Street, while the Town Hall will be lit up in red, white and blue to mark the occasion.
A special projection, supplied and installed by Evica Lights, will also be shown on the Cenotaph at the top of the High Street - featuring the silhouette of a World War II soldier.
James Theodosius, Rector at Holy Trinity Church, Skipton said: “I am delighted that we can come together to mark this important anniversary, to remember those who bravely fought for freedom and to remind ourselves that freedom requires our participation and service in our own times."
Skipton's famous Bizzie Lizzie's is marking both D-Day 80 and National Fish & Chip Day by making donations to the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
Katie Davison, Bizzie Lizzie's owner, said: “Bizzie Lizzie's is honoured to support the 80th Anniversary celebrations to commemorate D-Day.
"For every portion of regular or jumbo fish and chips sold in our Swadford Street and High Street Car Park restaurants on Thursday 6th June all day (11am - 8pm) we will donate £1 to the Royal British Legion - Skipton Branch, who have been supporting service men and women, ex-servicing personnel and their families since 1921.”
