Skipton gears up for Yorkshire Day celebrations

Free, family-friendly activities on the Canal Basin for Yorkshire Day

Skipton is set to come alive with pride, tradition, and Yorkshire spirit as the town hosts its annual Yorkshire Day celebration on Friday 1 August.

Locals and visitors alike are invited to join in a day of free, family-friendly activities on the Canal Basin between 10am and 4pm.

Once again, Skipton BID have funded the event so all activities taking place on the day are free of charge. Highlights of the day include:

•   Yorkshire Dales Bushcraft workshops (booking preferred)
•   A 9-hole Crazy Golf course, Rodeo Sheep, Giant Games and a Test Your strength
•   Crafting, face painting, candle making and more
•   A petting zoo
•   Traditional Morris dancing and a Flat Cap Band
•   Hat Throwing Competition

At 11.50 the Town Crier will read the Yorkshire Proclamation. Why 11.50? It is 1150 years since Yorkshire was founded, and all Yorkshire Town Criers will be carrying out the proclamation at the same time all around Yorkshire.

“We are really looking forward to hosting the annual Yorkshire Day celebrations, each year we make the event bigger and better. By hosting it on the Canal Basin means it can be the most vibrant yet. It’s a celebration of everything that makes Yorkshire unique – from its heritage and culture to its community spirit and sense of fun.”

All events are free of charge and suitable for all ages. Whether you're a proud Yorkshire native or a curious visitor, Skipton welcomes you to join in the festivities and experience the heart of the county.
