Pupils and teachers from Glusburn Community Primary School visited Parliament on 28th January as part of a trip to London.
The students met with their local MP, Julian Smith.
During the visit, the group toured the Palace of Westminster, guided by Parliament’s Education and Engagement team.
The tour included learning about the work of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, as well as key moments in British political history.
Pupils also took part in a curriculum-linked workshop in the Education Centre, focusing on how Parliament operates and how young people can engage with the democratic process.
The visit included a question-and-answer session with Mr Smith.
Pupils asked a range of questions, including whether he would consider banning Mondays or introducing a three-day working week.
They also raised the topic of social media restrictions for young people, where Mr Smith outlined his support for increased protections.
In addition, students asked about his interests outside of politics.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Smith said:
“It was great meeting with pupils from Glusburn Community Primary School.
“Their questions were creative and insightful, and it is always encouraging to see young people so engaged with the world around them.
"I am grateful to the school's staff for bringing them to Parliament as part of their learning.”
