A recent national survey has named Skipton the UK’s happiest place to live in 2025.

Skipton was noted as the 'gateway to the Yorkshire Dales', is known for its scenery, historical features and strong sense of community.

The survey, carried out by Rightmove, found that residents rated the town highly for its access to green spaces, essential services and the friendliness of the community.

Residents responding to the survey also noted the range of independent shops, cafés and pubs, which they say contribute to Skipton’s appeal for both locals and visitors.

Affordability was another factor noted by survey respondents.

According to Rightmove, the average asking price for a home in Skipton is £326,093, below the national average of £364,833.

The town is also home to Skipton Building Society, one of the area’s major employers.

People commented that the friendliness of the town, the accessibility of green spaces, and the incredible backdrop of Skipton Castle and the Yorkshire Dales all contribute to a quality of life.

The 2025 “happy at home” index placed Richmond-upon-Thames second and Camden third.

Another North Yorkshire Town that scored a top spot was Harrogate, placing 4th in the National rank and 2nd in the Regional rank.
