Work to replace Skipton's Tin Footbridge begins today (Monday 2 November), with the crossing set to remain closed for several weeks.
The project will see the existing bridge removed and a new structure installed, with work scheduled to continue until 18th December.
During this period, the footbridge will be closed to pedestrians and the canal beneath it will also be closed.
A section of Cavendish Street car park will be used as a site compound, with the car park facing two full-day closures on Saturday 21 November and Saturday 28 November.
The existing bridge is scheduled to be removed on Saturday 21st November, with work taking place between 6am and 11pm.
The replacement bridge will then be installed on Saturday 28th November, between 6am and 9pm.
A crane will be positioned at the junction of Union Terrace and Union Wharf, immediately west of the bridge, to carry out the removal and installation.
This will require road closures on both dates.
Pedestrian access to properties in the affected area will be maintained through a temporary route via the private ginnel at Whitfield Court.
The work is expected to be completed by 18 December, subject to the construction schedule.
