A stunning new portrayal of Silsden life, created in fabric and stitch, will be unveiled as part of a Textile Art Exhibition at Silsden Town Hall.
The Textile Art Exhibition will show work by 15 local textile artists and textile groups who combine fibre and fabric to create pictures, hangings and sculptural pieces using a variety of techniques. The centrepiece of the Exhibition will be the newly-created Silsden Tapestry.
The Tapestry has been stitched over the last year by 27 Silsden ladies who have combined their skills and ideas to create a portrayal of Silsden life, past and present. The Tapestry shows what the town means to the people who live there - its landscape, history and architecture.
The Tapestry demonstrates many stitching skills, from applique and fine embroidery to crochet and felting. ‘The sharing of techniques and ideas has been an important part of the project’ said Alison ‘We are amazed by what we have produced’.
Also on show during the exhibition will be a video about the making of the Tapestry and the history of the buildings that have been stitched, and a small exhibition about Silsden’s textile history.
The Silsden Tapestry and Silsden Textile Art Exhibition is open Saturday 29 March 10am - 4pm and Sunday 30 March 11am - 3pm, entry is free.
